Hello! Thank you for visiting this site. My name is Skyler Hansen, and this website is my portfolio of projects and articles I wrote and completed for my Translation Management Systems class at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS, for short). Translation Management Systems are software, both cloud-based and not, that enable translation and localization teams to better-manage their translation efforts. Although such systems are expensive, they normally pay for themselves through the savings from better-managed projects and on-time projects.

This course was an introduction to using Translation Management Systems, with our focus being mainly on SDL WorldServer since it the industry leader. We also worked on studied other TMS systems such as Lingotek and XTRF.  We learned how to create projects, workflows, and workgroups, among other things. We then implemented all of these skills with a group project, which you can find a description of in the next tab.

Another element of the course was writing professional presentations that could be used as blog content and presentation material. Two of my presentations are listed on this site, with one being a blog post on TMSs and crowdsourcing, and the other is a Prezi presentation on my recommendation for a TMS. The TMS recommendation is based on comparing several different TMSs both through documentation and usage.
