Yenching Scholarship for Grad School in China Info Session

Sign up to learn about the Yenching Scholars Program! Join Dr. Brent Haas, Director of Admissions, to learn more about the interdisciplinary Master’s program in China Studies at the Yenching Academy of Peking University. This specially designed, English-taught degree program aims to push the study of China beyond the boundaries of traditionally defined Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines. All Yenching Scholars receive a full fellowship that covers tuition, one round-trip journey to Beijing, basic insurance, and living costs. Each year the Yenching Academy admits 120 scholars from 40+ countries and regions. In addition to coursework, scholars participate in field studies and self-designed research trips, taking advantage of opportunities to customize and maximize their experiences in Beijing, and within China’s leading university. Sign up to join Dean Lisa Gates and Marshall Scholar Hasher Nisar ’16.5 to learn more about graduate study in the UK and application processes for the Marshall, Rhodes, Mitchell, Fulbright UK, Churchill and Gates Cambridge Scholarships. Hasher Nisar will share his experiences as a Marshall Scholar at Oxford, where he completed a degree in Islamic Studies and History. Hasher was a Political Science major and Religion minor at Middlebury. He is also a Truman Scholar and Senior Fellow for Humanity in Action. Learn about how to research graduate programs across disciplines, understand the fellowship application processes and timeframes, including institutional nomination. This session is useful for students contemplating Fall ’21 applications and those just exploring!

The internal deadline is fast approaching!

If you are considering applying for nomination for the Truman, Beinecke, Goldwater or St. Andrews Scholarship, now is the time to organize your application and ask questions.

For information about each of these scholarships, see go/fellowships and look at the listing of fellowships.

Beinecke: Current junior studying humanities, arts, social sciences; US citizen receiving financial aid

Goldwater: Current sophomore or junior planning a research career in science; US citizens

St. Andrews: Seniors interested in post-graduate study in Scotland who receive financial aid; US Citizen

Truman: Current junior interested in public affairs or public service; US citizen

Each has specific eligibility requirements (citizenship, GPA, financial aid, professional/educational plans) so read carefully!

NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program & NIH MD/PhD Partnership Training Program Application Opens Aug 1

The application portal opens August 1, 2018!

These programs are looking for outstanding scholars who wish to pursue a PhD or MD/PhD through an accelerated, interdisciplinary, collaborative biomedical research program. The program is based on the British system, in which students perform doctoral research without required formal courses other than those students choose to take in relationship to their own interests. Students selected for admission to the program have already developed a passion for science through engagement in summer, job related, or undergraduate research programs. These programs provide a unique training opportunity at the largest biomedical research facility in the world.

Basic application requirements as follows: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
  • GRE and/or MCAT scores
  • US Citizen or permanent resident

Rhodes Scholarship Updates for 2018 Competition

There are a few significant updates to share about Rhodes Scholarships for 2018:

  • DACA students in the US are now eligible for US Rhodes Scholarships
  • Newly expanded scholarships exists for citizens from Singapore and East African countries
  • Two new Global Rhodes Scholarships have been added for citizens not from existing Rhodes jurisdictions

Applications (from young alumni and current seniors) for nomination by Middlebury College for the Fall 2018 application cycle are due April 6, 2018 at 5pm.
