FKD Fellowship with US State Dept., Deadline Nov 7; CCI Info Session 10/8 at 4:30

Want to pursue a career in national security, foreign affairs, or humanitarian assistance? Apply for the Frasure-Kruzel-Drew Memorial Fellowship to help manage Conventional Weapons Destruction programs in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. College seniors, graduate students, and recent grads are eligible.

During this two-year paid fellowship, you will oversee conventional munitions threat reduction and humanitarian demining projects while collaborating with foreign governments, NGOs, international organizations, and other U.S. government agencies. Previous fellows have gone on to successful careers with the U.S. Department of State, UN, NGOs, and private sector.

The FKD Fellowship is administered by James Madison University’s Center for International Stabilization and Recovery. Apply by November 7, 2019 at https://www.jmu.edu/cisr/other/fellowship.html . Application requires letters of recommendation, so start working on this early!

Humanity in Action Applications Open! Due Jan 5

The Humanity in Action Fellowship explores issues of democracy, pluralism, human rights, and social justice. Each program is tailored to its location. Fellows are challenged to understand their host city’s unique history of injustice, its present struggles to encompass groups with minoritized cultures and identities, and the future of its democratic values. For four weeks, Fellows engage with local experts and community members, visit museums and historical sites, and engage in constant discourse with one another and program leaders. Fellowship Dates:

  • European Fellowship Programs (Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Sarajevo, and Warsaw): June 3 – July 1, 2020, followed by an Action Project implementation;
  • John Lewis Fellowship Program (Atlanta, Georgia): June 23 – July 21, 2020, followed an Action Project implementation.

Eligibility:

Current undergraduate and graduate university and college students, as well as recent graduates (within last two years), who are passionate about active citizenship, diversity and human rights are invited to apply.  

Cost:

Programing , including accommodations, is fully-funded. Participants are asked to cover their round-trip travel to the program location as well as some meals and spending money for activities outside of programing. If this is not possible, Humanity in Action may provide either full or partial travel and living stipends for all those with documented need.

PPIA Junior Summer Institute–Apps Due Nov 1

The PPIA Junior Summer Institute (JSI) Fellowship Program is a fully-funded,  rigorous academic graduate level preparation program for undergraduate juniors committed to public service careers. The program seeks to address the lack of diversity across the spectrum of professional public service, including government, nonprofits, public policy institutions, and international organizations. The purpose of the JSI Fellowship is to prepare students to obtain a Master’s or joint degree, in public policy, public administration, international affairs, or a related field. Who is eligible? All PPIA Fellows have a strong commitment to public service, and contribute to diverse perspectives in public policy and international affairs. More specific criteria and guidelines:

  • United States citizen, legal permanent resident, or DACA recipient can apply to all JSI programs; International students are eligible for select JSIs – Carnegie Mellon and Princeton.
  • Must have an expected graduation date between December 2020 and August 2021.
  • Must be committed to pursuing a Master’s Degree in public policy and/or international affairs at one of the PPIA Consortium graduate schools.
  • Must be committed to and demonstrate an interest in pursuing a professional career associated with public service such as government, nonprofits, and humanitarian and international organizations.
  • Must be interested in contributing to the diversity of perspectives present in the PPIA Junior Summer Institute Program. You must specifically demonstrate involvement in working to improve historically underserved or underrepresented communities, including African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics, Latinx, Native Americans and Pacific Islanders.
  • Economic need is given consideration during the review of applications.
  • All academic majors are welcome!

Critical Language Scholarship Application Due Nov 19!

 The 2020 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program application is now open!  This is a fully-funded summer study abroad program to learn a critical foreign language. The application is now live and available online at:  https://www.clscholarship.org/apply Applications are due Tuesday, November 19, 2019 by 8:00pm EST. All class years are eligible to apply; you must be a US citizen to apply.

The CLS Program offers instruction in the following languages: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu. Resources for advisors are available on our web site at: https://clscholarship.org/advisors
