This website is the product of a Middlebury College class on the meaning of “sustainable development” in our own locality. We explored how and where the concept of “sustainable development” arose, what it means, and why many people consider it to be an oxymoron. What are “reformist” versions of development, and what are “transformative” visions? What better alternatives to sustainable development are being proposed around the world?
