30 Rock is one of the most clever sitcoms to ever grace the silver screen. It follows Liz Lemon (played by Tina Fey) as she navigates her job as head writer of a fictional sketch show called The Girlie Show. The show is loosely based on Fey’s experiences as the head writer of Saturday Night Live, and both TGS and SNL are broadcast on NBC, which is owned by General Electric. One of the most heavily examined relationships is that of Lemon and her boss, Vice President of Television and Microwave Oven Programming Jack Donaghy (played by Alec Baldwin), a corporate type who wants to use Liz Lemon’s show to plug General Electric products (pun intended). Thus, 30 Rock creates commentary about the corporate world, the use and place of television, and most importantly, product integration, by talking about these issues as they relate to the fictional Girlie Show.
