In this section of the website you will find information about key moments of political and social change that culminated in members of the community taking action. As compared to the ‘politics’ section of the website, this page focuses on obvious moments of clashing between the powerful and the (not so) powerless and histories of ‘activism’ or ‘protest’ as we often think of it. Here you will find information about the school-wide strike of 1970, staff unionization efforts in the 1990s, amongst other marches and occupations that taken place over the course of Middlebury’s history. These are stories many of us do not know but that have shaped the way that members of our Middlebury community live, study, and work today.
