There’s usually something worth seeing at Montréal’s Museum of Fine Arts or Museum of Contemporary Arts.
The Museum of Fine Arts is downtown, on a stretch of Sherbrooke that was once part of the Golden Square Mile, with many large houses built by prominent businessmen.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is in the newly-refurbished Quartier des Spectacles, home to the Jazz Fest, among other festivals, and various performance venues. Not far from Chinatown, if you need a snack, and there are also some small branches of established restaurants in the complex.
