Our favorite destination just about any time of year is the Jardin Botanique, Montréal’s Botanical Garden.
Even if it’s freezing outside, you can visit the greenhouses and pretend you’re in a tropical rainforest or a warm desert. Lilacs, daylilies, fruit trees, Japanese and Chinese gardens, vegetable and herb gardens. Don’t feed the foxes, who hang out in the Alpine garden!
Don’t miss the Papillons en liberté (butterflies flying free) in the early spring or the Chinese lanterns in the fall for a special treat!
The huge garden is away from the center of town, but can be reached by car or metro (Pie IX station), or bixi bike, if you’re ambitious.
