Jean Talon Market

This is our favorite market, located in Little Italy near Jean-Talon Metro. Covered in Winter, open in Summer. Seasonal local and imported fruits and vegetables, cheeses, eggs, plants, herbs, plus fish (and meat) stores, ice cream, spices, olives.

We go to a Hungarian speaking egg man, and do have favorite places for tomatoes, herbs, etc., but they can change with the seasons. The following are pretty stable, though:

Fish: Delices de la Mer / Atkins has both fresh fish and smoked, as well as snow crab, lobsters, and crevettes matanes (Maine shrimp). It’s all their own catch from the Gaspésie.
Cheese: Qui lait cru or Fromagerie Hamel have the biggest selection in town.
Fresh Pasta: Pastificio Sacchetto has pasta and sauces
Quebec products: Marché des Saveurs has everything from wines and beers to jams and cheeses from all over Quebec.
If you’re making a picnic and need some wine, there are wines in the market, or you can go to the nearby SAQ.

Several restaurants in the market or in the neighborhood nearby (check the category Jean Talon Market below).

Reasonable underground parking, if you’re stocking up on heavier items. The entrance is from Henri Julien (our street!), but you have to come from the Jean Talon side. Otherwise it’s usually possible to find a place in the neighborhood — just check the parking signs carefully!
