H&R Block Tax Information Session

The Office of Student Services at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, A Graduate School of Middlebury College is hosting a tax workshop for resident and non-resident students on March 4th. Students from Monterey Peninsula College and California State University Monterey Bay are welcome to attend the session.

Representatives from a local H&R Block will be on campus on Tuesday, March 4th from 12-1pm in Morse B104. They will be talking about the often confusing process of filing your taxes, and what you need to know to have a successful, stress-free tax season.

Carmel Jewish Film Festival Finale on MIIS Campus

JEWISH FILM FEST TIX copyThe 2014 Carmel Jewish Film Festival and the Monterey Institute community outreach committee the eMIISsaries is proud to present a the screening of its finale film on Sunday, March on the MIIS campus.

The Attack will be screened in Irvine Auditorium followed by a panel comprised of MIIS faculty with expertise in the films’s subject, and moderated by Provost Amy Sands.

MIIS students are being offered a *special ticket pricing that includes the pre-film reception, the film and post film event for $10, a $27 value. Tickets are available in Student Services.

*Special pricing is for the finale screening, reception and panel only. Additional tickets to the festival may be purchased through the Carmel Jewish Film Festival’s website.

Food Drive Update – Day #3

Pocket-Canned-Food-Drive-photoIt’s DAY # 3 of the 10th Annual Campus HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE! 

Thanks to your generosity, we collected 242.0 lbs/109.8kgs on the third day of the Food Drive.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of 55 people that attended Wednesday’s Pancake Breakfast, we raised $135 AND 183 lbs/83 kg  of food donations.

For every $1 raised, the Food Bank can purchase $8 of food from their suppliers, so MIIS students,staff and faculty provided the Food Bank with the buying capacity of $1080!  Way to go!

Total to date:  522 lbs/236.8 kg!

For the cost of one parking ticket on Van Buren or Pierce, you could buy over 30 cans of tuna at Safeway?  Or more than 20 boxes/bags of pasta?

Great Buys:

Found 2 for $1 cans of vegetables at Longs, and 5lb bags of flour and sugar (2/$4) at Safeway.

Please support the 10-day (that’s 10 BUSINESS DAYS!),  100-lb/45.5kg a day goal from December 2-13.

Gingerbread Decorating Contest!

GBD CONTEST copyWhat’s more fun than a little competition!? Especially when it involves edible building! Come to the Holland Center Patio for some decorating fun and friendly competition. Snacks and prizes in categories such as: most likely to be on HDTV, most likely to be flipped, and most creative.

Please show up promptly at 12:30 to start your decorating. Judging is at 1:20! See you there!

 

Fall Club Fair Coming Soon!

If you’re thinking about starting a new student club, or have a continuing club from last year, sign-up for the fair at go.miis.edu/clubfair. The Fair is September 5th from 1-2 on the Samson Patio. The deadline to sign up is 5:00pm on September 4th.

Mortar Board Decorating and Pizza

Mortar Board DecoratinAre you graduating next week? Want to have some fun and bedazzle your mortar board? Like pizza? Come to the DLC on May 15th between 5:30-7:00 for some decorating fun and pizza before commencement on Saturday. We will have supplies, food, and drinks.
