It’s Earth Week at MIIS!

This week, the Monterey Institute will hold its first annual Earth Week event on campus.  Earth Week’s mission is to catalyze the MIIS community to be the sustainable solution, and its vision is to actively educate the MIIS community to cultivate environmental leadership, innovation, and cultural change.

The 9-day long celebration will consist of debates, presentations, workshops, and activities all focused on different environmental problems. Each day centers around its own theme, check out the detailed lineup.

Day 3- Tuesday, April 16: FOOD

“Food Justice Internationally and Locally”

Approximately 1.3 billion tonnes of food is lost or wasted every year. Meanwhile, there are 925 million people going hungry. Eric Holt-Gimenez of Food First, Lindsay Coate of Ag Against Hunger, and Kaley Grimland of El Mercado Popular discuss Food Systems here and abroad.

5pm-7pm: Vegan Cook off and Sustainable Potluck in OGT garden

5pm: Keynote Speaker Michele Messina, a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene expert with over 13 years of experience working with UN agencies, CARE, & OXFAM, will talk about the global water crisis and how institutions are coming together to solve it.

6pm: Tierra de Agua Premiere, followed by Q&A with the filmmakers.
