Whether they were competing in individual NESCAC championships or competing against rival schools during the regular season, Middlebury athletic teams in the 1980s had a visible tie to the NESCAC league.
1981: NESCAC MEN’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
Golfers from their respective schools pose at the 1981 NESCAC golf championship. Note the NESCAC championship in an individualized sport. One of the ambiguities of tournament play was that the NESCAC allowed individuals to compete, but not teams.
1982-83: Middlebury Men’s Basketball

1984-85: Middlebury Men’s Hockey vs. Williams

1985: NESCAC WOMEN’S XC CHAMPIONSHIP

1987: Men’s Middlebury Lacrosse vs. Williams

1988-89: Men’s Middlebury Basketball vs. Union
Middlebury basketball player lays one up and over a Union defender in this non-league game. Union was a member of the NESCAC league up until 1977, when it withdrew. Although Middlebury continues to play them in certain sports like basketball and lacrosse, Union is counted as a non-conference school as of ’77.
