1980s NESCAC Photos

Whether they were competing in individual NESCAC championships or competing against rival schools during the regular season, Middlebury athletic teams in the 1980s had a visible tie to the NESCAC league.


1981 - NESCAC golf champ

Golfers from their respective schools pose at the 1981 NESCAC golf championship. Note the NESCAC championship in an individualized sport. One of the ambiguities of tournament play was that the NESCAC allowed individuals to compete, but not teams. 

1982-83: Middlebury Men’s Basketball

1985 - WCC NESCAC Championship

Women cross-country runners from NESCAC schools pose for the 1985 NESCAC cross country championship hosted by Williams. Note that there is a NESCAC championship in cross country in 1985, an individualized sport.

1988-89: Men’s Middlebury Basketball vs. Union

1988-89 - MBball vs. Union

Middlebury basketball player lays one up and over a Union defender in this non-league gameUnion was a member of the NESCAC league up until 1977, when it withdrew. Although Middlebury continues to play them in certain sports like basketball and lacrosse, Union is counted as a non-conference school as of ’77.
