In Angry White Men, Michael Kimmel attributes the rise of the men’s rights movement to white men’s thwarted sense of entitlement in the wake of social, political, and economic changes (including second-wave feminism) that began in the late 20th century. He emphasizes that MRAs (men’s rights activists) are straight white men. In their list of grievances, MRAs include no references to “the especially dismal plight of African American men, or Latino men, or working-class men. . . . Nor is there a word about gay men. . .” (124). Discuss the racial and sexual politics of the men’s rights movement.
