The Simpsons Tapped Out is a sarcastic take on the classic city-builder game. Gameplay is simple enough, in many cases the game outright tells you what to click and when. The premise: Homer has destroyed Springfield by playing a silly time-wasting mobile game (haha funny self-aware game. how clever…) while the nuclear reactor explodes around him. The player must slowly build back up the city and find all of the characters who apparently did not die in a giant nuclear explosion.
Tapped Out is an easy to play game with fast rewards. In game ‘money’ and prizes appear quite easily, especially in the beginning stages. Players have no consequence for their actions except for lost time — you can send Homer or the other characters off on a few select chores, once completed you can assign them a new task. The ‘fun’ comes from adding new buildings, discovering new characters and the funny comments the characters make as they go about these chores. However, this fun can come at a cost. The game is free to download on all platforms, but the easiest way to advance is by purchasing (with IRL money) donuts that allow you to purchase characters and buildings that would ordinarily require tireless clicking and sending Homer to clean up nuclear waste.
Played for about 30 minutes before I became too bored to continue. Although I think if I was more engaged with the Simpsons characters and brand I could have enjoyed this game a lot more.
