Note: There was no AAG meeting on May 11th due to the board meeting.

Curricular Innovation

Beryl Levinger reported on her work as Curricular Innovation officer, reaching out to Middlebury College faculty over the past year. She described a process of “citizen diplomacy,” which has led to some promising new relationships. As a result of her outreach, several College faculty members will be teaching on the MIIS campus over the next couple of years, and we expect to see the inauguration of an experiment modeled on Sprintensive, that will offer a cohort of entering first year students a program of sequential intensive courses that are thematically linked and designed to create an intentional intellectual community.

Beryl also reported on President Patton’s strong interest in leveraging the Institute’s resources to provide innovative “gap semester” learning opportunities in the fall semester for “Febs” (first year students admitted for February matriculation on the Vermont campus). (See also May 16 notes.)

The Future of Business Education

Kent reported on recent discussions that have taking place across a range of stakeholders, generating ideas for how business content will be included in the MIIS curriculum post-MBA. The next step is to share some preliminary ideas with the heads of other Middlebury programs, and the Office of the Provost, for their input.
