Apply for an Editorship with The Middlebury Campus

Got a creative streak? Like learning new things and passing that knowledge on to others? Want to forge relationships with the movers and shakers at Middlebury and beyond?

The Middlebury Campus is seeking new editors and managers for the upcoming academic year. Positions are available in the following sections:

  • News
  • Local News
  • Opinions
  • Features
  • Sports

The Campus is also interested in recruiting an Online Manager. The Online Manager is responsible for overseeing our online edition, which includes working with online contributors to generate unique content and working with section editors to transfer our print content online.

Campus section editors are responsible for coming up with story ideas, designing page layout for the print edition, teaching and mentoring staff writers, writing articles when necessary and contributing to the Campus website. Strong writing skills are a must, and previous reporting experience is preferred but not necessary. Students considering a future career in journalism are especially encouraged to apply.

As an editor for the Campus, you will learn the ins and outs of publishing a real newspaper in print and online, develop the leadership skills necessary to manage a group of staff writers, create a portfolio of articles to attest to your writing abilities and form connections with the leaders of the College community — from student organizations to Old Chapel, from town businesses to sports teams.

To apply for any of these positions, please submit a brief letter (no more than 300 words) describing your interest and qualifications to campus@middlebury.edu by no later than 8 p.m. this Sunday, Nov. 20. We will start conducting interviews after Thanksgiving Break, and you should expect to provide a writing sample.
