    I enjoyed the podcast, but I’m wondering if most people are somewhere in the middle of your two arguments. Yes, clearly MP3 sound is not nearly as good as hearing it live, but neither is a CD. On top of format is hardware. Most people listen to music on their iPod earbuds or sub $100 computer speakers that don’t have the frequency response to reproduce much of what compression codecs like MP3 throw out. Is this the fate of audio then? Will audiophiles die out? Are people nowadays only focused on what the music says and how it makes them feel rather than how accurately it reproduces what happened in the studio or on stage?
