Go/Get There Faster

Go shortcuts are a great browsing tool that we have implemented. They’ve been around for a while, but we still get asked about them a lot. Here are some of the key things you should know.

What they are: go shortcuts provide short URLs that redirect you to other pages. For example, you don’t have to remember the URL for the helpdesk website (http://www.middlebury.edu/offices/technology/help); you only have to remember go/helpdesk.

Where they are: type “go” in your browser. This will take you to the “GOtionary,” the list of all go shortcuts that have been made.

How to use them: you can log on at go/admin to create new shortcuts or edit one’s you’ve already made. You can create shortcuts to anywhere on the web. Just choose what fills in the blank in go/_____ and tell it where to go.

Benefits of go: you can use go links from off campus too. Instead of typing go/*, use go.middlebury.edu/*. Sending a link to people off campus? Send them a go link. This way, if the address changes, just update your go shortcut. There’s no need to send out a new link.
