Paid Entrepreneurial Internship Opportunity with the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival – Deadline Date: 10/14

Creating a New Business Spin-off of a Successful Film Festival: Entrepreneurial Opportunity with the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival

Working closely with the Festival Producer, this multi-faceted internship offers a unique opportunity to create a new component of the successful Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival during the 2018-19 academic year. Beginning in early November 2018, this opportunity is ideal for a student with true entrepreneurial passion and the ability to research and explore the requirements for forging a viable film-related business.

The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival is seeking to create a Vimeo-based branded platform called “Shorts from Middlebury” that will feature selected shorts from the first four years of the Festival, available for viewing online on a pay-per-view basis.

Specific components of the internship include:

→ Carefully researching the technical requirements of launching the viewing service as described on Vimeo

→ Assisting the Festival Producer in developing a financial model for the “Shorts from Middlebury” online service

→ Working with the Festival Producer in creating a brief contract to be used in securing agreements from filmmakers for the licensing and exhibition of their work on the “Shorts from Middlebury” platform.

→ Contacting selected filmmakers to determine their interest in participating in “Shorts from Middlebury” and, if interested, to finalize participation agreements with them.

→ Working with the Festival Producer to design an appealing interface for the service that will be easy to navigate and fully supported with descriptive information about each film and its director

→ Creating a marketing campaign for the prospective launch of the platform [expected to be April 2019 or earlier] and determining the appropriate avenues for advertising

→ Establishing a payment mechanism for users of the “Shorts from Middlebury” service employing the existing Festival PayPal account

→ This internship will begin in mid-October 2018 and run through the first week in May 2019. It will entail a commitment of 10 hours per week.

NOTE: there are additional opportunities for Festival support should the time commitment allow. First, the Festival will be rolling out its monthly MNFF Winter/Spring Screening Series at Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater beginning in November and concluding in May. There are basic promotional activities associated with these film screenings. Second, the Festival will be taking a small selection of its best films from the 2018 Festival out on tour around Vermont over a few days in early February. There are interesting support opportunities associated with the Vermont Tour and a chance to work with the Artistic Director of the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival during the Tour.

This internship is funded with a CCI award of $2,500.00. If you are offered and accept this internship, please be aware that your funding for this position is provided by CCI, and therefore you will be required to complete funded internship paperwork.
