Vermont Women in Higher Education Award Nominations–Deadline extended!

The VWHE Awards Committee has extended the 29th annual VWHE award nominations deadline until Thursday, July 10, 2014.

Please spread the word and encourage nominations for some of the deserving women you might know.


VWHE will present three awards to outstanding women: the Sister Elizabeth Candon Award for Distinguished Service; the Jackie Gribbons Award for Leadership; and the Peggy R. Williams Emerging Professional Award at our fall dinner (date to be determined).  Nomination forms, which include criteria for each award, as well as past award recipients, are available on our website –


You are in a unique position to nominate women who have made significant contributions to higher education at your institution or organization.  Please share this information with others who also may identify deserving nominees.  On behalf of VWHE, I invite you and your colleagues to submit nominations and supporting statements to Shanti McKenna by July 10, 2014.

It’s Not Too Late to Sign Up for VWHE!

Our pre-conference keynote speaker is Jennifer Hetzel Silbert and our Conference keynote is Cary Brown, Executive Director of Vermont Commission on Women.

The conference fee covers a number of workshops, meals, and networking sessions. Women from educational institutions all over the state will be traveling to Killington Grand Resort on March 20th and 21st for this annual event.

The 2014 Women’s Leadership Conference from Vermont Women in Higher Education, with the theme “Creating Opportunity for Women,” is March 20 and 21 at Killington Grand Resort. There will be professional workshops, wellness workshops, a networking lunch, raffle, and more, all in a beautiful setting.

VWHE is very excited to announce this year’s keynote speaker:
Cary Brown, Executive Director of The Vermont Commission on Women 

Prior to becoming Executive Director for this independent state agency, she served two terms as a VCW commissioner. Previously, she served as the Director of Girls’ Programs for Vermont Works for Women, a non-profit organization supporting education, training, and careers in non-traditional fields for women and girls.

There will also be a great pre-conference speaker March 20: Jen Hetzel Silbert, who will be giving a talk titled “The Super Heroine Within.”

Vermont Women in Higher Education Scholarship Opportunity!

The Carol A. Moore Scholarship recognizes women currently working in higher education who are successful in their roles, who intend to engage in professional development or academic pursuits in order to further their career, and who demonstrate a commitment to supporting women’s leadership. VWHE is pleased to offer up to two $1,000 scholarships in support of this mission. Applications are due no later than November 30th.

2013 VWHE Fall Dinner

Now accepting nominations for Vermont Women in Higher Education Awards!

Each year, the Vermont Women in Higher Education presents three awards to outstanding women.  VWHE is pleased to accept nominations through June 7, 2013 for  the Sister Elizabeth Candon Award for Distinguished Service; the Jackie Gribbons Award for Leadership; and the Peggy R. Williams Emerging Professional Award.

The Sister Elizabeth Candon Distinguished Service Award is presented to a woman who has shown evidence of promoting and working toward the advancement of women in higher education and involvement at the national, regional, state, and local levels in related activities.

The Jackie Gribbons Leadership Award is presented to a woman who has demonstrated leadership ability, served as a model and mentor, developed innovative programs, and contributed significantly to the institution and profession.

The Peggy R. Williams Emerging Professional Award is presented to a woman who is in the early stages of her career, demonstrates excellence in her contributions to students, colleagues, and/or her institution (in such areas as service, innovative programs, teaching, research, etc.), and shows promise and potential for future contributions.

Brown Bag Lunch for VWHE Conference

There will be an informal lunchtime get-together on Tuesday March 5th at the Grille with Shannon Bohler-Small, Middlebury’s Institutional Representative to Vermont Women in Higher Education.
