College Application Workshop

Thursday, October 6, 8:00 – 9:00 PM ET

Join Admissions staff members and special guests for a workshop introducing students and families to the college application process. This program is open to all Middlebury staff/faculty and their high school seniors. The program gives an overview of the general selective college application process and does not focus on applying to Middlebury College in particular.

The webinar will be followed by an informal period of Q&A; discussion topics will include:

  • Looking for the right “fit” in a college.
  • Navigating test-optional application policies.
  • What makes a memorable or unique essay?
  • Understanding how financial aid policies can differ from institution to institution.

College Counseling Workshop

Friday, June 10, 8:45 – noon, McCardell Bicentennial Hall:

Join Admissions staff members for a workshop introducing students and families to the college application process. High-school-age children and grandchildren of Middlebury alumni, faculty, and staff, and their parents, are invited. The program gives an overview of the general selective college application process and does not focus on admission to Middlebury College in particular. There will be a panel followed by Q&A, a case study involving mock applications and a mock selection committee, and an overview of the financial aid process.

College Admissions Workshop for Vermonters

Middlebury College faculty and staff members with high school-aged children are welcome to join our second annual College Admissions Workshop for Vermonters! Representatives from Champlain College, Middlebury College, Saint Michael’s College, The University of Vermont, and the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) will provide a general overview of the college admissions and financial aid process and will respond to your questions about the many factors students and families consider when applying to colleges. Discussion topics will include:

  • Getting to know colleges when on-campus visits may not be possible
  • The increasing number of colleges that have adopted test-optional application policies
  • What admissions counselors look for when evaluating applications and building an incoming class 
  • Understanding how financial aid policies can differ from institution to institution & making the most of resources available to you
  • How to put your best foot forward in your application

College Admissions Workshop for Vermonters: An Invitation

The Admissions Office is pleased to invite you to our first ever College Admissions Workshop for Vermonters: a webinar for Vermont high school students, families, and school counselors that will provide attendees with a general overview of the selective college admissions process, particularly in light of the COVID era. We invite all Middlebury College faculty and staff members with high school-aged children to join us!

While the focus will not be on Middlebury in particular, our Admissions Counselors will share their insider knowledge and expertise, and respond to your questions about the many factors students and families consider when applying to colleges. Discussion topics will include: 

Getting to know colleges when on-campus visits are not possible
The increasing number of colleges (like Middlebury) that have adopted test-optional application policies this year
How admissions readers will evaluate applicants in a year when transcripts, course offerings, and extracurricular options are likely to look different
Understanding how financial aid policies can differ from institution to institution
