Yesterday I featured some of the environmental science-related internships that are still on MOJO, and today I highlight some opportunities in the field of education. Y.O.U.’s Inspire Fellows Program at Youth Organization Umbrella in Evanston, IL

Deadline to Apply: April 27

This  fellowship is intended for leaders who are interested in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment that offers a hands-on introduction to the fields of positive youth development, education, and non-profit management. Inspire Fellows serve as workshop leaders and counselors for Y.O.U.’s 9-week summer program. Fellows are chosen to develop and facilitate specific workshops in one of three areas: arts and literature, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), or recreational activities. Additionally, all fellows help lead discussions and workshops on life skills topics. *Although this internship is unpaid, you can apply for funding from Middlebury at go/summerfunding.

Paid First to the Top Fellowship at the Tennessee Department of Education in Nashville, TN

Deadline to Apply: May 31

The fellowship is designed to provide students disciplines with an opportunity to play an integral role in the innovative and ambitious work taking place at the Tennessee Department of Education and across the state. Each fellow will be matched with a top leader in the department to work on essential projects tied to “First to the Top” goals. Potential examples include: designing a competition and forum for high-performing and fast-improving schools to share their strongest practices with schools struggling in similar areas; developing a state-wide principal training academy model; and helping develop training and support for Common Core implementation.

Paid Summer Community Intern at The Dream Program in Winooski, VT

DREAM is a youth-based Village Mentoring organization. We build communities of families and college students that empower children from affordable housing neighborhoods to recognize their options, make informed decisions, and achieve their dreams. Summer Community Interns work with a young, passionate group of people to provide awesome summer programming to children ages five to eighteen living in affordable housing communities across Vermont. Each intern is responsible for programming with housing communities in a region, but also collaborates with other communities outside their region. In addition to developing and implementing children’s programming, each intern also works closely with families to build and support strong community relationships.
