Social Change

Has M.C. changed the way that you interact with others? Might it be used to foment collective action, on-campus, to the same degree that it does on-line?

  1. It would be hard for a site formulated on anonymity to effect my interactions with actual individuals. There’s no way of knowing who posted what and to be honest I’d rather base my interactions on what I know than what I suppose based on M.C. In some ways the confessional has altered my basic perception of the campus in terms of the existence of particularly inclined individuals, but not in my day-to-day relationships–allowing it to affect these relationships and pondering over who said what is simply a waste of energy. As for collective action on-campus, I think it would be helpful in determining general interest in a topic, however this would only be a reflection of those who participate in M.C. not necessarily the entire campus. Plus, the anonymy factor prevents true organization of any collective action or event.

  2. You argue that in some ways, the confessional has effected your perception of the campus. While it might not perceivably effect your interactions with acquaintances (unless you knew what they were posting) it certainly could color the way that you view new faces.

I am not sure why you argue that anonymity prevents “true” organization. Consider alcoholics anonymous.

  3. This is an interesting post from M.C.

I don’t care if there is cheap beer. Pub Night is a total failure because of how insanely LOUD they insist the band be. How can we get them to CHANGE this?

  4. I thinke M.C. has changed the overall campus attitudes towards some groups. WRMC, for instance, never was the object of distain among my freinds until M.C. people decided it was a good thing to rip on.

for your consideration, a topic on M.C.

“I hope Sepomana ends in a tragic fire which consumes WRMC and its shitty music.”
