New acquisitions lists in MIDCAT

Monday, January 28th, 2013

I miss the old way that MIDCAT organized the ‘new acquisitions’ lists by the month. The new format, with the covers of the various library acquisitions, looks nice but it’s not very useful for browsing. I think it would be very handy to be able to sort the list by acquisition type — e.g, book, DVD, music CD, score, map, etc.

Bring back book retrieval

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Please bring back that service where you can request book/cds online from other Middlebury libraries and then simply pick them up from the one closest to you . I was really able to utilize that for the music library because I rarely have the opportunity to go down there. It was such a great service…I really hate to see it go

Display more location info in Midcat

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

This is not really my suggestion; I’m passing it along:

A user from outside the Middlebury College community (a college library director from another Vermont institution) using the Middlebury catalog remarked that it was difficult to determine which library housed the particular item she was interested in. A patron of hers planned to travel here to use the item, and wanted to make sure she had her destination correct.

I have no way of knowing whether or not this is a common concern, but I wonder if it might warrant exploring additional options for displaying additional location information? Would it help to add “Main Library/Armstrong library/Music library” in addition to the current location information for those patrons who don’t know what “Armstrong stacks” or “Main stacks lower level” mean? (Or to help those who aren’t even aware that we have branch libraries?)

Thanks!

Search for books by Middlebury faculty?

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Is there a way to see what materials the library holds that are published by Middlebury faculty? And how do we make sure that we systematically buy all books published by Middlebury faculty?

Please respond to purchase requests

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

It would be great to have an email response after submitting a purchase request to let me know: 1. request received 2. general sense of how much time this will take and 3. human contact or other means to track progress of the request. Thanks!

(22 suggestions)

  • When you need to check out a book, be polite. Duh.
  • More free stuff!
  • Have nameplates for library desk staff, encourage use of names.
  • More bathing suits…
  • Ball pit.
  • Fix the tampon dispenser, for Christ’s sake! It’s been broken all year!
  • Fewer boards like this for me to read as a source of procrastination…
  • Better return your books on time!
  • How about allowing us to write our comments directly onto the poster-might be able to save paper this way (encourage others to write small)
  • Free t-shirts
  • Porno viewing lab is a must
  • The library is great, but public safety gives too many parking tickets. There are no places to park.
  • Pay the helpdesk students more! (2)
  • Blankets for student use!
  • Cleaner ladies rooms!
  • Keep this board-much more fun than online blog of similar function.
  • Open Axinn (please)
  • Don’t look at me!
