Late fees

Instead of charging for printing, the LIS should introduce late fees for every day a book or a CD is overdue. Apart from generating money, it will teach the students responsibility. It is very frustrating when you need the book, but someone can’t return it on time.

Please contact us at library_circulation@middlebury.edu if you need a book that is overdue – we are here to help. We used to have overdue fines – they did not work as an incentive to return overdue books. Our current system of blocking borrowing privileges actually works better as an incentive to return library materials. That said, we are always open to new ideas and we regularly review effectiveness of policies – thanks for the feedback.
