I was reading the comments about gmail and there appears to be a lot of support for switching. But I wonder if that isn’t because the comments are from students who mainly use webmail, which I think is not as easy or powerful as windows outlook. Please be sure to gather staff and faculty preferences on this issue since so much of our work happens over email.

Maybe professors in the Social Sciences/Humanities Dept. should reconsider their syllabi and NOT assign 20-30 page articles due every class. And no, reading from a laptop screen does not work for everyone, especially since PDF doesn’t allow highlighting.

In the golden age before computers, college students had to photocopy reserve articles (page by page) and pay for each page. You had to come to the library during open hours to do this (and sometimes wait until the person before you was done.) It’s part of the cost of college and you get a bunch of free copies to boot!

LIS is not trying to make “revenue” — they’re trying to break even and keep us from killing the rainforst. Let’s not be the typical self-indulgent NE college kids.

I suggest you recommend that professors print reading in course packs to be purchased with textbooks at the beginning of semester.

The college just doesn’t want to have to take money from other budget areas to pay for printing. I agree with them.

Don’t undercut the average printing amount by 300 pages! Also stop referring to it as comprehensive fee if you are going to reduce services and make us pay for things covered by the fee.

The printing quota is ridiculous. Making students pay a penny more than their tuition, however they may pay it, is disrespectful.

Instead of charging for printing, the LIS should introduce late fees for every day a book or a CD is overdue. Apart from generating money, it will teach the students responsibility. It is very frustrating when you need the book, but someone can’t return it on time.

If the printing quota thing is going to happen, there needs to be a way to keep track of how many pages I’ve printed. Right now I have no idea…so maybe an email notification or something, so we know how close we’re getting to our quota.

I know everyone tries to be healthy, but I think the cafe should sell a few types of candy…

Do you think we should switch midd email accounts from Microsoft Outlook WebMail to Google Mail and Google Calendar?
- Yes — everyone forwards their mail to Gmail anyway. Plus, the Wave is coming…
- Yes!! Please let’s do so. Microsoft Outlook is so out of date.
- Yes! (A faculty member)
- Yes!!! Gmail is Awesome!
- Definitely, everybody already does.
- Yes, let’s use better technology!
- Yes, please switch over ASAP.
- Yes — so much easier and more compatible.
- Absolutely! Gmail = more space + integrated system + plays well with browsers other than IE.
- Yes — your email communication will last longer than your time in school . No space issues, let Google administer your email!
- Yes, Gmail is far superior — way more storage.
- Absolutely yes, Gmail is much easier to use because I can filter emails.
- Yes, simplify email, save money, easy answer!
- Yes, if Google doesn’t own all my stuff or invade my privacy.
- I fear not having Gmail.
- Wave is going to be so clutch, please, I want it!
- Whatever you decide to do, I’ve been retrieving all Midd emails to my Gmail (using POP account settings) ever since I enrolled here…so frankly, I do not care…but it’s true that I like the expanded email attachment option (over 20MB) on MiddMail…
- Recommendation: expand Outlook memory. It’s the only thing Gmail has on Microsoft Outlook.
- Teach Microsoft R+D that they need to build better software. But I like MS Outlook’s lightweight feature and its simplicity.
- Not until it has support to check account using iMap.
- No, I can’t deal with Gmail.
- No, I don’t want a commercial company crawling all over my email.
- No, I like having separate accounts for school and play.
- No, Google is too creepy.
- No, seriously?

- We need working computers — computers without viruses that spontaneously end programs and lose files.
- Too many fatal error reports!
