The Middlebury Helpdesk assists students who have chosen to purchase Vista to the best of our abilities, and in most cases can assist in resolving issues with connecting to the network. We did evaluate the merits of recommending or not recommending Vista for student purchase quite carefully, and determined that we did not recommend Vista for student purchase. Instead, we negotiated with Dell to provide a model with XP, and with a license to upgrade to Vista if the issues with it were resolved.
