Systems Maintenance this Sunday, May 21st, 2017

During our regular maintenance window on Sunday, May 21st from 6:00 am to 10:00am EST we have the following activities scheduled:

 

  • Our on-premise Exchange servers will be upgraded. These servers are for automated messages generated from on-premise systems, and for group management. User email does not interact with these servers.
    • There will be a number of brief (1-2 minute) Exchange service interruptions during this maintenance window

Systems Maintenance this Thursday, May 18th

During our regular maintenance window on Thursday, May 18th from 5:00 am to 7:30am EST we have the following activities scheduled:

 

  • The authentication platform for wireless, Aruba ClearPass, will be updated
    • This maintenance will affect the VT and CA campuses
    • New authentications will be unavailable for 30 minutes during the maintenance window
    • Wireless devices with an active session will be unaffected

Systems Maintenance this Thursday, May 4th, 2017

During our regular maintenance window on Star Wars Day, Thursday, May 4th from 5:00 am to 7:30am EST we have the following activities scheduled:

 

  • Hummingbird, the web server front end to the undergrad Classes folders, will be replaced by a new server named Sunbird.
  • There will be brief interruption to network services, up to 10 minutes, at each of the following building on the VT campus
    • Allen Hall
    • Hadley Hall
    • Milliken Hall
    • Forest Hall
    • Coffrin Hall

Systems Maintenance this Sunday, April 30th, 2017

During our regular maintenance window this Sunday, April 30th from 6:00 am to 10:00 am EST we have the following activities scheduled:

 

  • The PaperCut printing system will be upgraded
    • Any printing jobs sent during the maintenance window will be queued for printing after the maintenance is complete. We don’t expect any print jobs to be lost during this maintenance window, but it would be best to delay any printing until after 10:00 on Sunday
    • The print release stations will each need to be rebooted and updated after the PaperCut servers are upgraded.

Systems Maintenance this Thursday, March 30th

During our regular maintenance window this Thursday, March 30th from 5 am – 7:30 am EST we have the following activities scheduled:

 

  • The DNS/DHCP appliance will have a new reporting server installed into the grid. No service outage is anticipated.
  • The physical interfaces connecting to the DMZ network will be reconfigured. There is a potential for a brief service outage of the Library Millennium server and the ADFS servers (SSO), up to 1 minute.
  • The CommVault backup service will be upgraded. No customer impact.
  • Continuing to work with campus fiber maintenance, there will be a brief network outage for Hadley, Milliken, Kelly, Lang, and Ross Halls, as well as faculty housing on Blinn Ln. Outage will be up to 5 minutes.
  • On-premise Exchange servers will be upgraded to the next patch level. This work will continue on Sunday. No service impact is anticipated.
  • The border firewalls in VT will be upgraded to the next point release. Leveraging the highly available configuration of these devices, no service outage is anticipated.

Systems Maintenance this Sunday, February 5th, 2017

During our regular maintenance window this Sunday, February 5th from 6 am – 10 am EST we have the following activities scheduled:

 

  • The PaperCut printing management system will be down for up to 1 hour. During the service outage printing will be unavailable.
  • There will be a number of servers rebooted for patching. Each will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes.
    • WordPress servers, for both Monterey and Middlebury
    • CAS servers, providing the Central Authentication System for users accessing many Middlebury resources
    • MiddMedia
    • The GO service

Voice Mail Messages not Accessible to Unified Messaging Users

Since sometime Monday, January 30, we believe no new voice mail messages have been received by the 250 unified messaging users in our system.  Messages may have been left, but the users cannot access via either email or phone, nor is there any notification.  Our vendor is working on the issue.  In the mean time, to be assured you receive a phone message, you can open a ticket with the Help Desk to request your voice mailbox be converted back to a standard voice mailbox until the problem is resolved.
