Myself and our team were committed to changes our schedules and the way we work. A large component of that change was re-imaging our continuous volunteer training. We did this through theory of change and program logic models that I developed as a result of our staff retreat.

In an effort to better prepare volunteers for their work with GVI and to help them assimilate into the local communities, we at GVI Quepos designed continuous volunteer training workshops that take place weekly. These workshops include:
- Practical information about Costa Rica and the project,
- Spanish lessons
- Introduction to working in a culturally diverse environment
- Training in lesson planning and child management
- Trips to the project site
- Intercultural Communication and Self-Awareness activities
- Support for project preparation (English Teaching, Sports, and Arts activities)
