mphgEver wonder what the most popular movies are that the library owns?  Well, we did, and here’s what we found:

6) Wedding Crashers: 201
5) Monty Python and the Holy Grail: 203
4) Amores Perros: 210
3) 21 Grams: 213
2) Mean Girls: 222

and the most popular movie in our collection (drum roll, please)…

1) V for Vendetta: 223

  1. What’s the date range for these statistics? Are these loans in the last year, past couple years? Why only top 6? Can the library make these data public?

    1. Hi Dan
Thanks for your questions, and thanks for reading the newsletter!

These stats are since 2005, when we moved over to our (then) new library catalog (go/midcat).

We picked 6 somewhat at random, and, if I remember correctly, in part because I think there may have been a substantial gap between the 6th and 7th most popular videos. I’d be happy to update the post with more.

Not sure what you mean by “can this data be made public.” This newsletter is public… To generate the data, we do have to manually run a report behind the scenes – it doesn’t happen automatically – but of course we can do this for other formats – CDs, books, music scores, etc.

Feel free to contact me directly if you’d like to discuss further. My contact info is at the bottom page of each post.
      Best,
