The International Education Management program includes two semesters on campus followed by a 4-6 month professional practicum in the U.S. or abroad. During the practicum period, students demonstrate their application of knowledge and skills acquired in the IEM program through the completion of multiple deliverables in a specific organizational and cultural context

Each deliverable must demonstrate the students’ knowledge of one or more of the five IEM program learning goals:

  1. International Education Theory and Best Practice
  2. Intercultural and Linguistic Competency
  3. Program Design and Assessment
  4. Resource Generation
  5. Resource Management and Administration

For my practicum, I worked at CEA Study Abroad’s Prague office from July – December 2017.  During this time, I was fortunate enough to work with the Student Services, Academics, Housing, Health and Safety, and Internship Program departments on projects and daily tasks. This has provided me with first hand knowledge of the onsite student and staff perspective which will help me advise students, parents, and faculty alike in managing expectations during the pre-departure stage.

The deliverables I completed include:

  1. Creation of Staff and Student Housing Resources
  2. Assessing Internship Program to Determine Opportunities for Growth
  3. Evaluation of Current Excursions and Creation of a New Excursion
  4. Re-vamp Re-entry and Career Development Workshop
  5. Update Internship Course Curriculum
