Gun Violence Prevention

“I don’t know how we keep seeing shooting after shooting, read about the people murdered because they went to Bible study or they went to the movies or they were just doing their job, and not finally say we’ve got to do something about this.”

In order to combat gun violence, Clinton plans to do the following:

  • Increase the number of gun sales subject to background checks
  • Repeal the “Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act,” a law that prevents victims of gun violence from holding manufacturers and dealers accountable for violence perpetrated with their guns
  • Keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, other violent criminals, and the severely mentally ill by closing loopholes and passing legislation
  • Prevent military-style weapons from being sold by reinstating the assault weapons ban

In response to the most recent shooting in San Bernardino, CA, which is now being investigated as a potential terrorist attack, Clinton proclaimed: “I don’t see any conflict at all between going after the terrorists with everything we have got… and doing more on gun safety measures.  I know that we can save lives and we shouldn’t be conflating the two.”
