MIIS T&I Faculty at the GLACIER Conference

Prof. Christiane Abel, Prof. Laura Burian, and Prof. Barry Olsen are currently interpreting for the GLACIER Conference in Anchorage, Alaska, with Secretary Kerry and President Obama among the speakers.

The Conference on Global Leadership in the Arctic: Cooperation, Innovation, Engagement and Resilience, or GLACIER, will highlight international and domestic priorities in the Arctic. The Department of State hosted GLACIER in Anchorage, Alaska on August 31st.

MIIS Faculty Lisa Donohoe published

MIIS Faculty Lisa Donohoe Luscombe has recently been published. The article is called Language and identity in a post-Soviet world: language of education and linguistic identity among Azerbaijani students.

Professor Chen Speaks in Belgium and Shanghai

Professor Wallace Chen, Program Coordinator of Chinese Translation and Interpretation, made the following presentations during the month of July:

  1. Paper presentation on “Using Parallel and Comparable Corpora in Teaching Chinese-English Sight Translation” at ICLC 7 – UCCTS 3 (7th International Contrastive Linguistics Conference and 3rd Conference on Using Corpora in Contrastive and Translation Studies), held at Ghent University, Belgium, on July 12, 2013.
  2. Invited lecture on “Corpus-based Translation Studies and Translation Universals” at the 2013 Summer School of Corpus-based Translation Studies, held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China, July 19, 2013.

Professor Kavenoki Speaks at T&I Conference in Russia

Professor Kavenoki spoke on June 3, 2013 at the 5th Industry of Translation and Interpretation International Conference in Perm, Russia on the T&I Market in the United States, Russia, and Other Geographic Locations in the Russian-English Combination. The conference was held at the National Research Polytechnic University.

She also gave an open lecture on June 5, 2013. The topic of this lecture was the training of T&I Professionals in the United States.
