This article is about the founding of the Vermont Environmental Center in Ripton Vermont. The center runs workshops for teachers to learn about environmental issues and to bring them into the classroom. The article describes moments from the author’s time attending one of the workshops. They were very impressed and felt that it would have rippling effects to other teachers and students as these environmental teachings were spread by the workshop attendees.
There was high praise for the teaching approaches and generally what seemed like an agreement with the ecological and environmental ideas expressed at the center. The piece was very optimistic about the environmentalism and particularly the instilling of values and attitudes of appreciation for nature and its intrinsic value to humans and to itself. It is interesting that this article with a focus on the people learning about environmental topics takes the view of a coexistence of nature and humans vs the dominating leave nature alone environmentalism. It kind of goes without saying a little through the feature of “students playing the bug game”.
