Review of the “Threshold of Assessment in English Language speaking proficiency” article

The threshold of assessment

The international students tend to self-efface themselves whenever it comes to the proficiency in English language. I am as international student of English language avoid the compliment of being proficient speakers. I personally tend to do that to keep myself looking for new sources of knowledge in the realia of cultural versatility of English. The proficiency in English takes more than the nine months I have spent in California in order to master it. There are some potential impediments to the process of being proficient in the language that must be taken in consideration. These impediments might interfere any international student yearning to perfect his/her English language during the period of residence in the land of hope.

There is no indication to the type of impediments that are pointed to in this paragraph.

“I tend to self-efface myself whenever It comes to proficiency in English language. I am personally looking for enhancing my repertoire in English. I believe that English proficiency  takes more that one year of interaction in the American community. Some students take less than a year but their English proficiency gauge shows salient improvement. On the other hand, some students remain without any noticeable improvement as a result of their introverted behavior and refrain of merging in the community.”

The lack of constant interaction with the American community might decrease the possibility of language proficiency. The reduced hours of intensive program and lack of free time for doing activities might be the causes. On the other hand, living with native speakers of the mother tongue might conspicuously decrease the mastery of the language in the designated period of study. I met a taxicab from Middle East working in Monterey. He has been in United States since twenty years. Though, his long period of living here, his Arabic accent was apparent. It was obvious from his speech that he lived in the shell of the Arabic family since his arrival in United States.

“The lack of constant interaction with the American community might decrease the possibility of language proficiency. The reduced hours of intensive program and the limitations of free time for doing activities might be the causes. Living with first language speakers might, apparently, decrease the indicator of improvement in the second language.

Language cannot be gained from books solely. There are myriad of sources to sip the information from. Native speaker, culture, places and communication are the best tools to improve the skills of dealing in any foreign language whether English, Chinese or Arabic.

“There are myriad of sources to retrieve  information in English language communication from ranging from  native speaker, culture, places and communication. These channels of learning represent the proxy input for language learning and are the best tools to improve the skills of dealing in any foreign language whether English, Chinese or Arabic”.

I cannot utter any words that relate to proficiency when it comes to my personal progress in language as that sometimes deter me form reading or listening or even interacting with the native speakers in the targeted language. I have serious weakness in my listening skills. This weakness in reflected in the low score I got in the ten proficiency tests in English (iBT) I had since September 2010. My writing skills are improving exponentially since the ending of the advanced level in English as A Second Language Program in Monterrey Institute. Therefore, I will not put my writing in the bulls’ eye of my self-assessment.  I am on the extreme line of the continuum of kinesthetic learning. Thus, listening for constant lectures without any potentially of interaction actively would backfire my beeline of learning and understanding of that lecture.

” This paragraph is redundant and it is just a repetition of the previous paragraph. The only part that add up to the transition of previous paragraph is story of TOEFL score.”

According to the ETS scoring report, I have a latent snag in synthesizing information from separate parts of listening lectures or conversations. The second difficulty is in comprehending contradictory information from both written and spoken script of lectures in the test. My recent score in iBT test indicates slight progress in terms of comprehension. I did not reach the required level for master program admission this month yet. I am currently on the threshold of entry for the master program. I still need to boost my mental processing propeller to be qualified to study in Monterey Institute of International Studies.

I think that I have modified this paragraph many times but I still think that there are some aspects that needs modification.” Please let me know if yotu shave any suggestions.
