Founder and Curator

Alex Bacchus (they/them)

Alex Bacchus is the founder of the digital humanities site Diasporic Children of Indenture, which explores reconciling descending from South Asian indenture and living in diaspora. They are a multi-ethnic, Indo-Guyanese hyperpolyglot and multi-disciplinary artist from a corner of  Lenapehoking colonially known as New York City, but they also find home in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal). They are expected to graduate in February 2022 with a B.A. in International and Global Studies from Middlebury College in Ndakinna (Vermont). In 2019, they studied Persian and Persianate cultures in Dushanbe, Tajikistan as a Fulbright scholar. Alex’s artistry is inspired by the intersections of holding queer, racialized identities; descending from free and forced migrations; and unpacking the profound meanings of coolieness while living in North America. And, stemming from this, their research interests lie in indenture, the Caribbean, SSWANA and global queerness and feminisms with focus on the mentioned regions.
