27 – 28 October 2014: MIIS CySec was an associate sponsor of the 31st International Workshop on Global Security at l’Hôtel des Invalides in Paris, France for high-level civilian and military leaders of NATO, the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, foreign dignitaries and key tech companies. This year’s Chatham House rules-event focused on Russia, Ukraine and post-Snowden cyber threats that face the Alliance. MIIS CySec Director Dr. Itamara Lochard presented, “Addressing Complexity: Trends in Cyber Cooperation” on the “Dealing with the Threat — the Key Role of Industry” panel while MIIS CySec Senior Distinguished Research Fellow Dr. Lin Wells chaired the “Cybersecurity Foundations: Norms, Governance, Infrastructures and People” panel. The event was presented by the Center for Strategic Decision Research and the Institut des Hautes Études de Défense Nationale with major support from the French Ministry of Defense, the U.S. Department of Defense and NATO.

27 May 2014: MIIS CySec Director Dr. Itamara Lochard and Highlands Forum President Dick O’Neiil were featured speakers at a roundtable discussion on “Cyber Threats and Cyber Solutions: Information Security As a Competitive Advantage” with Silicon Valley executives at the Battery Club in San Francisco, California.

17 – 18 April 2014: MIIS CySec and Suits and Spooks co-hosted a “Russia, Ukraine and Cyber Threats” Chatham-house forum at MIIS in Monterey, CA. Other sponsors included Taia Global, Basis Technology Corporations, Kaspersky Lab, O’Reilly Media, Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), Recorded Future and SecurityWeek. Twenty-one distinguished speakers from Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States interfaced with over 150 participants re the cyber component of the Crimean Crisis between Russia and Ukraine. 16 – 22 March 2014: Dr. Itamara Lochard, Director of MIIS CySec, facilitated and participated the first Macedonian delegation’s engagement in Estonia related to building cyber partnerships between the two countries and indeed the two regions. The trip was hosted by the Estonian and Macedonian Ministries of Defense.

15 November 2013: Dr. Itamara Lochard, Director of MIIS CySec, spoke on “Non-State Actors in A Digital World” at the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Skopje, Macedonia. The closed-audience included the multilateral division, intelligence agency institute for diplomacy, military academy and weapons demobilization divisions of the Macedonian MFA.

31 October 2013: MIIS Provost Dr. Amy Sands and MIIS CySec Director Dr. Itamara Lochard participated at a small Council on Foreign Relations round-table on “Defending an Open, Global, Secure and Resilient Internet” in San Francisco, CA. The event included key leaders in Silicon Valley and was closed to the public.
