Cyber Summer Program (CSP)
The Cyber Summer Program (CSP) is the National Security Agency’s (NSA) premier outreach effort to the very best undergraduate and graduate computer science, engineering, mathematics, network security and information assurance students in the country. Each summer we invite up to 16 exceptional students to participate in a 12-week program where they work together, and in teams, directly with NSA technical professionals on mission-critical cyber-related problems.

Application Deadline
Applications are accepted September 1st – October 31st each year.

Cyber Defenders Internship

Cyber Defenders is a 6- to 12-week, paid summer internship at Lawrence Livermore National Lab that provides students at all levels with practical experience in understanding computer systems, network operations, computer security, information protection, and cyber policy. Interesting projects abound.

Tuesday, April 7th, MIIS Cyber Graduate Research Assistant Dan Gifford led a session on introduction to Data Security, particularly as it pertains to NGOs. The session covered the basic mathematical theory behind encryption, as well as practical examples of how to encrypt your data and how to send encrypted messages. One big take-away of the day: don’t store information that you don’t need.

Brian Steckler, Director of Hastily Formed Networks (HFN) Research Group,  Associate Chair for Special Programs and Lecturer of Information Operations and Wireless Networking Technologies, the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), addresses the issues arising in emergency response to crises such as the 9/11 attacks and natural disasters such as the Indian Ocean tsunami, Pakistan earthquake and Hurricane Katrina.

The Western Conference and Exposition (WEST 2015) is the largest event on the West Coast for the Sea Services and the contractors that support them. WEST 2015 participants include active duty U.S. and allied military, government, industry and academia decision-makers.  Many related technical sessions are eligible for continuing education units (CEUs) and training credits. Industry will showcase and discuss emerging technologies and equipment that will impact all areas of future Sea Service operations.  Now in its 24th year, WEST 2015 is co-sponsored by Armed Forces Computer and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International and the U.S. Naval Institute, both non-profit, non-lobbying membership associations.

Bellagio/PopTech 2014 Fellows Announced

PopTech and the Rockefeller Foundation have announced the 2014 class of Bellagio/PopTech Fellows, a diverse group of designers, social innovators, technologists and writers with expertise in technology, global health, poverty alleviation, environmental sustainability and informal sector economics. The Fellows will collaboratively work to define the notion of livelihood in the 21st century with the goal to initiate a conversation designed to inform and inspire global, national and local efforts to improve livelihoods. The fellows have also produced a paper titled “Dignified Work in the Digital Age.” Congratulations to this year’s fellows Sean Blagsvedt, Dominic Muren, Robtel Neajai Pailey, Solomon Prakash and Alexice Tô-Camier for their outstanding achievements.

 

TechNet Asia-Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii

TechNet Asia-Pacific, now in its 29th year, is co-sponsored by Armed Forces Computer and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International and AFCEA Hawaii. It is the largest event in the Pacific Rim focusing on regional defense and cybersecurity issues. Keynote speakers, panel moderators and panelists will discuss defense policies and challenges in the Asia-Pacific region and their relevance to both Industry and Government.  Industry exhibitors will demonstrate products and solutions to meet the Services’ requirements and needs. Registration for panel sessions and exhibits is free to all registrants. A nominal fee is required for breakfasts and lunches.
