William Waldron, Professor of Religion
Kim Cronise, Associate Professor of Psychology
Kim Cronise and Bill Waldron will present a brief overview and highlights of their course entitled ‘Mindfulness and Psychology.’ Bill will briefly present the historical background of the practice of mindfulness in Buddhist Asia and the story of its transformation into a popular clinical practice in the hands of Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts. Kim will discuss the goals of mindfulness as defined by contemplative science and the scientific evidence for the practice’s efficacy. In her discussion, she will focus on today’s student and how mindfulness might serve as skills training to support broader learning goals. A sample meditation session will be led by Chessy Kelley, the local meditation leader who provided training for Kim and Bill’s course.
Lunch will be served at each event in the Center for Teaching, Learning & Research 12:15 – 1 pm. Please RSVP below at least two days in advance of the event. Thank you.
