Into the Unknown: Exploring the Landscape of Online Learning

Susan described what she learned from her investigations of how technology is transforming higher education. She provided an overview of online education in its many forms, and considered the implications of these developments for teaching and learning in a liberal arts context and beyond.

The Horizon Report, released jointly by the New Media Consortium and the Educause Learning Initiative, looks at trends, challenges and emerging technologies that are likely to have an impact on learning, teaching and creative inquiry in education in the next one to five years.

Poster sessions are common means of sharing research and project information at academic conferences and our own Spring Student Symposium, but how are they used as a teaching tool? Join us for a lunchtime discussion with faculty from different disciplines– Pat Zupan (Italian), Jonathan Miller-Lane (Education Studies), Caitlyn Myers (Economics), and Noah Graham (Physics)– about their experiences using poster presentations in a course. What works well? What challenges arise? How does this assignment enhance student learning?

Contemporary Teaching

A 2014 J-Term Course & Faculty workshop, Contemporary Teaching, focused on pedagogy and the impact of technology on teaching and learning.
