Re-shelving Etc.

A couple of reminders for the Main Circ Desk:

Please assign re-shelving as much as student schedules and desk activity allows
Please review the re-shelving basics with students before they head to the stacks – refer to Rich’s training sheet
Please sweep unassigned carrels that are clearly abandoned – but use your discretion as this is a very stressful time of year
Please discourage squatting in unassigned carrels and study rooms
Sweep shelving/holding carts in the Main Library – always scan/check-in at Circ prior to re-shelving – we recently had lots of books “returned” to the carts – and none of them had been checked in
And as always – double check carts for shelving errors BEFORE they go re-shelving
If time allows – it would not hurt to assign a double check-in at the front desk prior to re-shelving – could help us save a lot of time searching 🙂

Millennium and MIDCAT offline Thursday morning, 3/26/2009

On Thursday morning we will not be able to log in to Millennium Circulation. Instead, please follow the steps below to check items out to patrons. Please save all items to be checked in until after Mill Circ is back up and running. At Main, the circ computer closest to the main doors is the only one that has the offline circ mode installed. At Armstrong, it is on the circ computer closest to the light switches. Continue reading

AV in Room 105

From Dean:

The A/V switcher in the rack in Library 105 appears to have an intermittent problem causing the recent calls for assistance with a complaint of no image will project.
To ensure that computer projection is always available, we have made wiring changes to the system in Library 105.

–Currently, the installed desktop computer is the only device that will create an image to be projected. If you are planning on using DVD, you must use the desktop computer. There will be no VHS projection available.
–If you are planning on using a laptop, you must contact one of the Media Services staff through the Helpdesk to obtain a VGA cable with audio and instructions on how to connect the cable–the cable from the floorbox beneath the table has been removed.

Once the new switcher is installed and the system has been reprogrammed, all will be back in order.

Stay tuned!

Lights at closing – Main Library

FYI
Please be aware that we have requested a small change to the automatic light schedule at the Main Library. When the change has been made, lights will no longer automatically turn off 1/2 hour prior to closing.
Lights will be programmed to automatically turn off at closing Sun – Thurs at 1 am, and Fri and Sat at 11 pm.
Closing staff will need to manually turn off lights when hours change and we close earlier.

What We Do (Part Deux)

I have tried to organize the huge list we made a few weeks ago into different categories. Please take a look, and comment on any and all of the following:
1. What on this list could/should we stop doing? Why?
2. What on this list are you not sure why we are doing?
3. What is not on this list that we should be doing? Why?
