Reminder about pink ILLs

When a pink-banded ILL is returned, please check it in and place it back on the hold shelf. Circ staff will clear these when the due date has passed. These items are in-library use only, so patrons cannot take them out of the library, but need to have repeated access to these items. So please leave them on the hold shelf (after checking them in). Any questions?

Congratulations to Circ’s New Students of the Month!

A well-deserved congratulations to the first Fall semester 2013 Circ Student Employees of the Month;
Tiffany Park and Himi Kanaumi!

Tiffany and Himi were nominated from the pool of all LIS student employees.

While we realize that all of our Davis and Armstrong students are of the most excellent quality, we wanted to acknowledge and honor these two particular standouts, Himi and Tiffany. They are exemplary student professionals who are preparing themselves well for success in their futures beyond college.  Senior life can be stressful as you seniors know too well, but Tiffany and Himi always have a sense of humor while they work hard, running the desk.  Over the summer, and now into fall, they continue to show us just how responsible they are, while providing efficiency and top-rate service to anyone at the desk. Their future employers will be grateful when they realize how smart they were after hiring these two smart, charming upcoming recruits!

Penalty Points are on

Starting today, penalty points will be active for reserves, equipment, and ILL books. Please check things in as soon as they come across the desk. Items found on the reserves shelf after they were due should be back-dated at check-in. Same with items in the bookdrops or left on the counter from the night before. And remind people when their items are due!

Post LS-wrap up with the students

Suggestions:
1. Do more education of summer students about printing, possibly add a “how to print” sheet to their arrival packet. (Dan will bring this up with the User Services Managers)
2. If the info desk is still in place, maybe posting a tech student there to respond to printing questions for the first couple weeks. (and this)
3. Have tech students in the helpdesk area until 12am. (due to budget issues, I doubt this will be feasible, but I will mention it)
4. Fill paper trays at the beginning of each tech shift to avoid those issues all together. (Dan will let Joe know)
5. Have cafe’ open at night Sun-Thur. (This isn’t up to us…)
6. Have librarians available 5pm-7pm. (Numbers don’t justify this, but we will continue to keep track)
7. Better signage for reference and tech services (can’t really see the signs when entering the library) (Dan will talk to Joseph about this)
8. Armstrong would like more dongles and two mac computers for their branch. (They will be getting more shortly)
9. Need to make a new cheat sheet for who reserves which rooms in the library. (Dan is following up)
10. Audio books shelved together (like the Vermont and Faculty Author sections) (Dan has asked Rebekah if this is possible)
11. Clean the bathrooms more, main and upper get very dirty. (Kim contacted facilities)
12. Make up tip postcards to hand out at the beginning of language school about pertinent info. (Go for it!)

Thanks everyone for your input and for a great summer!

No more recalls on browsing books

After some feedback from patrons, I have changed the loan rule on Browsing books to not allow recalls. You can still place a hold, but the original patron will still have the full 28 days to return the item. The hold will prevent renewals, as always.

Billing inquiries

There have been a a few instances recently of patrons who have been billed asking about the status of their accounts. When I move charges to their college accounts, I remove those charges in Millennium, so it appears as if their accounts are clear. But telling them their account is clear is misleading when they then have a bill show up on their college account. So please direct all billing inquiries to a supervisor. (Supervisors, please check in the patron record for a note about charges moved to college account.)
