Midd Alum Offering Financial Inclusion Internship in Madagascar
Middlebury alumna, Elizabeth Toder ’90, who has spent several J-Terms teaching a class called “Extending Financial Services to the Unbanked,” which explored microfinance, microinsurance and the use of technology to achieve financial inclusion in developing countries, is now generously offering a summer internship to work with her on this very issue. She is now a Resident Banking Advisor for the U.S. Department of Treasury working in Madagascar with their Ministry of Finance on developing microinsurance products with the 25+ MFIs in the region. She has posted to Handshake a 10-week Financial Inclusion Internship, which is CCI-sponsored, working with her in Madagascar on this project and is seeking students who might have the right qualifications: French speakers, those studying/interested in development economics, and are juniors or senior Febs. (seniors can apply but will not get the CCI-sponsored funding, however, the employer is providing housing and stipend for local transportation).
Here is a link to view the internship in Handshake: https://middlebury.joinhandshake.com/jobs/2526159/share_preview.
The Financial Inclusion Intern posting has a quick turnaround so please apply and don’t wait for the deadline.
Innocence Project seeks summer interns
The Innocence Network is an affiliation of 68 organizations dedicated to providing pro bono legal and investigative services to individuals seeking to prove innocence of crimes for which they have been convicted, working to redress the causes of wrongful convictions, and supporting the exonerated after they are freed in the United States and abroad.
The Innocence Project, a not-for-profit organization that works to exonerate the innocent through post-conviction DNA testing and develop and implement policy changes to prevent wrongful convictions and otherwise reform the criminal justice system, is one of the founding members of the Innocence Network and provides support for the Innocence Network Support Unit, a team of four employees who help facilitate the work of the Network.
The Innocence Network Support Unit is seeking an intern to support the operational activities of the Innocence Network. The Network Communications/Special Projects Intern will report to the Innocence Network Coordinator and will work with other members of the Network Support Unit. The intern can expect to gain direct exposure to various areas of non-profit management as well as exposure to a national coalition of criminal justice reform organizations.
The internship is based at the Innocence Project office in lower Manhattan and requires a minimum commitment of at least three full days a week; however, the time frame and schedule are flexible. Ideally, the internship will begin in June and conclude sometime in early to mid-August. Please note that this is not a legal internship and is better suited for individuals looking to pursue careers in the non-profit management sector.

Do research this summer on forced labor and human trafficking
Verité interns work on a variety of research projects addressing forced labor, human trafficking, and human rights abuses worldwide. Interns perform desk research, draft reports, proofread texts, and occasionally support with various administrative tasks. Research interns read and analyze reports published by the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the International Labour Organization (ILO) and become familiar with the work of these entities as well as the work of many different stakeholders. Interns support our work with brands and our large-scale federally-funded research projects across supply chains, sectors, and commodities.
Verité is an Amherst, MA based nonprofit and award-winning pioneer in the social auditing, training, research, and consulting field. The organization has over 20 years of experience working with Fortune 500 corporations and their local suppliers through our global network of NGO partners. Verité works in over 70 countries to empower companies, factories, NGOs, governments, and workers to create sustainable workplace practices in the factories and communities where our consumer goods are made and the raw materials that go into them are sourced.
