Tech Policy Hub intern at the Aspen Institute in SF
The Aspen Institute is a global nonprofit organization committed to realizing a free, just, and equitable society. The Aspen Tech Policy Hub is a West Coast policy incubator, training a new generation of tech policy entrepreneurs. We take tech experts, teach them the policy process through an in-residence fellowship program in the Bay Area, and encourage them to develop outside-the-box solutions to society’s problems. We model ourselves after tech incubators like Y Combinator, but train new policy thinkers and focus the impact of their ideas.
The Hub seeks a full time summer intern to work closely with the Director and Program Coordinator to help the Hub manage the arrival of its third cohort and expand its external communications. The selected candidate will join a dynamic, entrepreneurial, high-performing team. This position is an opportunity to support cutting-edge policies, programs, research, and communications to support technologists as they learn to engage in the policy process.

Internship Tips from CCI’s Peer Career Advisor, Ivy Yang ’20 – APPLY EARLY!

Sometimes internship postings hire on a rolling basis but only post a final deadline date. If you have your eye on an internship that you know you want to apply to, don’t wait until the deadline.
If you have questions about the internship, networking with someone at the company can be a good way to find out how their hiring process works and can give you some more clarity. Unsure about how to network? Start by joining Midd2Midd and search by the company name to see if there are alumni there to connect with!
It’s a good idea to apply early for several reasons. First, once you submit your application, you don’t have to think about working on it anymore and can relax. It’s just a waiting game from then on and there’s not much you can do about it. Second, even if you are the perfect candidate, by waiting until the deadline, you may be hurting your chances of getting the internship because the position may have already been filled. Applying early means that if you are a good fit, the company will have spots available, and you may have a better chance of getting an interview and being hired. However, applying early does not mean rushing through your résumé and cover letter. It is still important to take your time to work on the application and make sure that it is the best it can possibly be.
Need help with your résumé and/or cover letter? Peer Career Advisors are here to help! go/PCAs for their Quick Question hours – OR – join us for our Résumé Review Week March 16-20 and enjoy snacks while you meet with a PCA!

GeoCivics PAID summer internship in Colorado Springs with alum
Are you passionate about redistricting, GIS, community education, and/or grassroots organizing?
Join the GeoCivics team at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs this summer to gain experience in linking up with national organizations working on electoral redistricting and fair voting practices, identifying college and high school student groups who are interested in these topics, and researching key current events at the local, state, and national scales that pertain to redistricting.
This summer’s intern will work directly with project lead Dr. Rebecca Theobald (an alumnae) to introduce audiences to the importance of online mapping tools, conduct research on organizations across the country, and execute the communications strategy for the project. Time management and attention to detail are musts, since most of your work will be independent and self-directed. By the end of the summer, we expect to be ready to have substantive discussions about apportionment and redistricting in fifty locations. Come help communities find a new voice to address gerrymandering.
For more information about the GeoCivics project, visit our website at www.uccs.edu/geocivics, and be sure and explore the Story Map created by the 2019 summer intern (http://arcg.is/1W0Wyj)
