Teaching Fellowship Opportunity @ Pingree School in MA
This opportunity for a teaching fellowship who happens to be a Middlebury Italian Language School graduate:
I am writing about a opportunity for Middlebury graduates and Middlebury language school graduates who are interested in a career in teaching in Independent schools.
After completing my masters degree at La Scuola Italiana in 2011, I experimented with working in different fields such as Study Abroad and Outdoor Education. In August 2017 I began the most recent stop on my journey, working as a Spanish Teaching Fellow at Pingree School, just north of Boston in Hamilton, Massachusetts.
The Pingree Fellowship Program is nearing the end of its first rotation and is looking to recruit recent college graduates from underrepresented backgrounds for the 2019-2020 school year (See mission statement below).
“The Pingree Fellowship Program works with talented, developing professionals to introduce the craft of teaching. In line with Pingree’s school mission statement, “a love of learning flourishes best in a diverse community,” the Pingree Fellowship seeks to identify and work with promising people from traditionally underrepresented populations in independent schools. We aim to provide fellows with the opportunity to teach, coach, and advise, preparing them for a career in independent schools.” via Pingree Fellowship Program Homepage
This has been a fantastic opportunity for me to grow as an individual and have an impact on young people as a teacher, coach and mentor. I even had the chance to teach an elective course on Italian cinema during the final trimester last school year! I wanted to reach out to you in the hopes of communicating and promoting this position. I am happy to speak further over the phone or send promotional pamphlets. Please let me know where best to promote this opportunity.
Spero che tutto vada bene da voi! Ci sentiamo presto.
Cordiali saluti,
Jim DiCenzo

Workshop: Pursuing an Advanced Degree in the Humanities: Tips and Stories from an alum
Connor Williams ’09 is currently pursuing a PhD in History and African American Studies at Yale. He is happy to share advice, experiences, and answer questions for students considering pursuing an advanced degree in the humanities. He hopes to demystify both the application process and the humanities grad school experience itself. In addition to discussing a PhD in the humanities, he’s also open to discussing post-doctorate employment prospects, including work in museums, private schools, and state educational offices (such as historical societies, state libraries, and so forth). Prior to Yale, Connor also taught for several years in private schools, and also earned an M.A. at Dartmouth. Open to all majors in any humanities field, and all class years welcome as you explore options for after graduation. Lunch of assorted sandwiches will be available.
Friday, October 26th at 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm in CCI at Adirondack House

What is Your Intercultural Passion?
Passionate about education? Want to raise awareness on global issues?
Language in Motion is currently accepting participant applications for the fall semester. As you may know, the Middlebury College Language in Motion program is a collaborative educational program that works with Middlebury students who have 1) studied abroad or lived or worked outside of the United States – and who 2) want to share their experiences with local high school students. Participants are supported as they develop and deliver presentations and activities that promote global awareness, intercultural competence, and language study in local secondary schools. Since starting the program on the Middlebury campus eight semesters ago, almost 100 Middlebury College students have worked with over 35 Vermont teachers in 12 Vermont schools – reaching over 1,700 secondary students.
Middlebury students who would like to participate can apply immediately, come to our drop-in information hours (date and time below), or contact me (Kristen Mullins) at kmullins@middlebury.edu. go/LiM
The fall application deadline is Wednesday, September 19.
