Career Conversation with Screen Writer and Television Producer Showrunner Jeff Bushell ’94
Jeff Bushell is a screen writer and television producer showrunner who has written for Jim Carrey, Will Farell, Joaquin Phoenix, Anna Farris, Bernie Mac, James Franco and Kamil Najani. Earlier this year, Jeff sold his spec BAD DOG to Lionsgate with Seth Rogen’s Point Grey producing along with Eugenio Derbez and Ben Odell’s 3Pas Studios. Jeff also wrote the Black List script RICKY STANICKY which Peter Farrelly is attached to direct as well as Disney’s BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA. On the television side, he was an Executive Producer/showrunner for Nickelodeon BELLA AND THE BULLDOGS and was the Co-Creator and Showrunner for MARVIN, MARVIN. He also previously served as a Consultant for DRAWN TOGETHER on Comedy Central, and as Executive Story Editor for WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU and Story Editor for THE BERNIE MAC SHOW, both on FOX.

The Burlington Free Press is in search of talented college students looking for an enriching paid internship. As a Summer 2019 Intern Program participant, you will develop, integrate and apply skill sets and experiences in support of the newsroom team. The purpose of the internship experience is to provide opportunities where college (undergrad and grad) students can develop, grow and become the next generation of talent for our network.
Internship supervisors offer mentoring, networking and real-world experience in a fun, entrepreneurial atmosphere. As part of one of our news team, you will work on meaningful and impactful coverage and projects, as well as enjoy peer-to-peer engagement while working on activities that promote professional development supplemental to the job.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research, report, write and help create compelling text and multimedia journalism serving the Greater Burlington and Vermont audience that seeks takeaways from news events as well as information how events impact them.
- Make it a mission to inform and engage readers through immediacy, insightful reporting and riveting storytelling.
- Work with coach, content creators, visual journalist and producers to shape storytelling to meet audience needs and interests on every platform.
- Connect with the audience through social media.
- Shadow reporters and learn digital and video skills.
- Learn how headlines, SEO, social posts and effective mobile writing techniques help extend the reach of content.
- Collaborate with visual journalist and producers to provide all the appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos,videos and graphics).
- Capture basic photos and video as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree-seeking student currently enrolled at a college or university with a GPA of at least 3.0
- Well organized, detail oriented, adaptable and flexible
- Ability to multi-task and work well in a team environment
- Excellent organizational, analytical and oral and written communication skills
- Previous internship experience is a plus
- Technical skills required for multiple aspects of the role
- Ideal candidates will possess strong Office and PC skills.

Midd Alum offering an NBC News Partnerships Summer Internship opportunity
NBC News partnerships consists of a small team of veteran producers and journalists who manage the editorial relationship between NBC Network shows (TODAY, Nightly News, Meet the Press, Dateline, Original NBC Social/Digital) and our 200+ local affiliate stations across the country. Our goal is simple: amplify the reach of NBC reporting on both the national and local level. Our intern plays a crucial role in reaching this daily goal.
Intern Purpose & Responsibilities (Job Description):
-Populate and analyze daily airings reports via Excel
-Research local stories, websites and stations nationwide
-Send daily alerts increasing local social media engagement
-Assist in producing crosstalks (live hits) and interviews
-Transcribe meetings, interviews and show content
-Meet and assist on tours with visiting affiliates
-Assist on special events and in control room
Qualifications:
Must have knowledge of current events
Previous work experience in an office/newsroom environment
Previous internship experience
Strong writing skills
Strong research skills
Social media/digital skills
Familiar with various online news websites
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
Strong work ethic
Additional Information About the Opportunity:
Interns have the ability to attend daily production and editorial meetings. Attend Q&A sessions and meetings throughout the internship with various NBC News correspondents, producers, Senior staff, visiting correspondents etc. Have the unique opportunity to observe firsthand all the platforms of NBC through the News Partnerships team.

The Blue Collar Post Collective is an accessible and focused grassroots non-profit organization, supporting emerging talent in post production.
Their goal is to foster an all-inclusive community and to provide unique opportunities for members to develop professionally. There are no prerequisites or membership fees to join the BCPC. They are a group of over 7000 post-production professionals who want to share their experiences and support each other. This appeals to those who have questions about getting started in post, people looking to advance in their careers, and professionals who want to connect with more of their peers.
The BCPC holds monthly meet-ups and organizes events focused on offering alternative educational and career development opportunities with no barriers to attend. Not only are they building networks for emerging talent, but they work to strengthen the ties between their group and the wider community, through collaborative partnerships, advocacy, social events and innovative programs.
