Hola amigos 😀

Here’s last week’s lesson in review: http://southpaw81.wordpress.com/

Hasta jueves…

Mandarin 1A: Week 4

This week’s presentation: Mandarin 1A: Week 4

你好吗? (Nǐ hǎo ma?)

我很好!(Wǒ hén hǎo)

我非常好!(Wǒ fēi cháng hǎo)

我挺好的!(Wǒ tíng hǎo de)

我还不错, 你呢?(Wǒ hái bú cùo, nǐ ne?)

For homework:

  • Ask Chinese speakers “你是美国人吗 ?/ nǐ shì Měigúorén ma? AND 你是中国人吗?/nǐ shì Zhōngguórén ma?” and take note of their responses.  Write the responses down in the best pinyin you can come up with!
  • Review stroke order rules, focusing on the 6 we discussed in class.  Please take a look at the flashcards and character paper I gave you in class!  Please note: these handouts have materials from the next dialogue in them so you can begin to approach these new words!
  • IMPORTANT: Focus on one character from the most recent dialogue and explain to the class how you can remember it.  If no one has time to do this, we will work together to do this in class next week!
  • Continue to look at the following resources:
  1. ArchChinese Character Dictionary with stroke order explanation and character type explanation.
  2. Skritter.com for character practice (small monthly fee)
  3. Animated story for characters 人,大 and 天 at New Concept Mandarin.
  4. Online Tone Drill program for your own practice!
Hand in your character worksheets next week if you want them looked at for correction and/or advice.
Have you found any other online resources you’d like to share with the class?  If so, please post as a comment!
谢谢,
刘老师 (Liu Laoshi)

Salut tout le monde!
I would like to extend my gratitude to those students that came to our first BUILD class. I was so happy to see all seven of your faces and I really look forward to the semester to come!

A little recap of last Thursday:
We introduced our selves in an open brise glace with these questions: Build Brise Glace

We also filled this out: BUILD class 1

Considerations for this week’s class (Thursday October 6th at 6:30)

Real life” Introductions/Discussions:

Think about what ways you would like to know how to introduce yourself to real people. Outside of the classroom, or in “real-life” situations we don’t usually ramble off a list of things we do and or are interested in right off the bat. We usually covertly say these types of things through a conversation: “Oh you like cats? I have two cats! Their names are Rufus and Logan…” This task not only requires listening comprehension but on the spot problem solving. However, we don’t always have to tie connections. The simplest way for someone to get to know you is for them to ask you questions and vice-versa.Possible questions:

  • Salut/Bonjour, je m’appelle Kasey.

Yes this is not a question but it implies a response of your own name 🙂 .

  • Qu’est que tu/vous fais/faites dans le vie?

This question is seems like it’s open to interpretation but usually means what do you do for a living: work/student etc….

  • Qu’est ce que tu/vous fais/faites ici?

This question comes up a lot while abroad since when you’re staying somewhere for an extended period of time its often not just for leisure.

  • Qu’est que tu/vous aimes/aimez faire?
  • Où est ce que tu/vous as/avez grandi?

Where did you grow up?
