Last week, MIIS welcomed 82 new students for the spring semester.

The Middlebury Institute is well-known for its Commencement flag ceremony, where the flags of the homelands of graduating seniors are carried at the head of the procession of faculty and graduates. MIIS has now inaugurated a new tradition: an opening convocation at which the flags of entering students are carried by a student from that country.

This new practice grew out of a desire to celebrate the diversity of backgrounds and cultures that we value so much at the Institute.
