Dear Colleagues,

As you read your students’ final papers, advise senior theses or essays, and evaluate other student projects, please consider submitting papers for two awards sponsored by the Program in Women’s and Gender Studies:

The Alison Fraker Prize
Deadline: February 11th, 2011

The Fraker Prize is awarded to the best work–essay, multimedia project, film etc.–addressing gender or women. The work should have been completed either during the 2010 calendar year (J-term, Spring and Fall semesters) or this coming J-term 2011. Nominated work can be from any course, not necessarily a WAGS cross-listed one, but unlike the Gensler Prize (see below) the Fraker prize does not consider senior theses or essays. The prize has been instituted in memory of Alison Fraker (’89) and will be announced in March at a reception in Chellis House. Please send your nominations to Marion Wells (mwells@middlebury.edu) by February 11, 2011.

The Drue Cortell Gensler Award
Deadline: early May 2011 (details for submissions will be circulated during the spring term)

The Gensler Award recognizes the best senior project on a topic concerning gender or women. The thesis or project could be a written text, a film, a multimedia presentation, or a digital project from any discipline. Gensler prize nominees are honored at the WAGS end of the year picnic, and the winner of the award is announced during commencement week. Please send your nominations (including those nominations from projects finishing in December 10 or January 11) to Heidi Grasswick (grasswick@middlebury.edu).

If you have any questions about these prizes please contact Marion Wells (mwells@middlebury.edu) regarding the Fraker Prize and Heidi Grasswick (grasswick@middlebury.edu) regarding the Gensler.

Best,

Marion Wells
