Quest for Honor (Mary Ann Bruni, 2009)
a documentary that has just been shortlisted for an Academy Award

on December 1 at 7 p.m., MBH 219

In commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence, we will screen “Quest for Honor”. The movie follows the efforts of a former teacher and tireless activist works with with local lawmen, the Kurdish government agencies and her colleagues to investigate and eradicate honor killings in the tribal regions of Kurdistan. Q&A with Khanim Rahim Latif, a women’s rights activist from Iraq, who has spoken out against honor killings and female genital mutilation, and was involved in a campaign to create a 25% quota for women in the Iraqi National Assembly in 2005.
